MEANING OF PANSORI
The word Pansori is a Korean word Pan and Sori, the word pan has different meanings while Sori mean sound in Korean it can be the sound of people, the sound of rain, the sound of sadness or anger etc.
Themes of pansori varies according to the story of family, loyalty, royalty love, anger, sadness, bereavement etc. there are 12 sounds in pansori also called 12 yards
HISTORY IF PANSORI
One of the earliest history of Pansori was traced to the 17thcentury, in the Joseon Dynasty, it gained more recognistion in the 18th and 19th century. Some documents and literature have recognized that the earliest performers id Pansori was most likely Street performers, Shamans called Mudang etc. it was recognized as an oral tradition. In 1964, Pansori was designated as Koreans national Intangible Cultural Heritage. While in 2003 it became registered as the UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and intangible Heritage of Humanity of Korea.
PEOPLE THAT PERFORM THE PANSORI
Pansori performance involves a singer/ vocalist called Chanja and a drummer or percussionist called Gosu , the name of the drum is called PUK(double-headed barrel drum)
