AFROBEAT MEETS KPOP : EXPERIENCING MUSIC BEYOND BARRIER.

As a Nigerian who listens to Afrobeat and loves Kpop, One of the best things to see is how music connects both Korea and Nigeria. This article is In recognition of the presence of different music genres such as Kpop and Afrobeats and the acceptance by people either through singing or dancing to the songs. For example a lot of Nigerians are fans to Kpop group, they dance to different kpop songs. Thus, watching Kpop artist dance to Afrobeat is an amazing experience that is worth recognizing.

First of all Afrobeat is a popular music genre that incorporates the elements of African music and west African musical style, Majorly, it has been recognised as the umbrella term that describes music from West Africa  that was developed in Nigeria, it emerged in the late 1960s. Afrobeat is known for  the deep and  complex rhythm that has captivating sound especially with the usage of different instruments. KPOP means Korean pop music which have become very popular since the 2000s.

Recently across different social media platforms, different Kpopartist have begun exploring Afrobeats/ Nigerian Music through dance. One of the most recognized instance of when Afrobeat meet Kpop was when RM Kim Namjoon of BTS posted a dance rehearsal video on his Instagram, the song he was dancing to was Davido songs title Unavailable, which is one of the most recognised Nigerian song of 2023. Another Kpop Artist that danced to Davido Unavailable is Minghao (The 8) where he danced the exact dance step released by the Davido.

A dance challenge that has been trending on Tiktok which is a socal media platform is the Nigerian artist Burna Boy song tited‘Ye’, Rain posted a video of him dancing to this song, also another kpop group that danced to Burna boy Ye is Zerobaseone. Other artist that have dance to other Afrobeat song is Natty from Kiss of life and she danced to Ckay’s Song love Nwantiti.

This has just shown that music goes beyond barriers and borders, and this has led to the creation of bonds that have eliminated any form of barrier. As a Nigerian, it brings me immense joy to see Afrobeat being recognised and enjoyed by famous Kpop Artist. It simply shows how Afrobeat meets Kpopmusic
