THE CREATION OF SOUTH KOREA

South Korea, is the southern half of the Korean peninsula that was created on 15 August 1948, it is officially known as Republic of Korea. South Korea is located in the northeastern Asia. It is bounded on the north-by-North Korea; on the east by the East Sea (Sea of Japan); on the southeast and south by the Korea Strait, which separates it from Japan; and on the west by the Yellow Sea. South Korea capital is Soeul, which is the largest city.

South Korea emergence was as a result of the post-world war II partitioning of Korea, whereby after Japan surrendered to the allied power on 15th August 1945, there was a division at the 38th parallel, in order for a trusteeship to be put in place. The division was meant to be temporary while the future of Korea and the establishment of a national government was to be discussed but this was later met with no solution and Korea was divided at the 38 parallel which led the the creation of North Korea and South Korea.

38 Parallel

There where several influences for the division, an example was the different ideologies and opinions. There was the occupying forces of USSR Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in the North practicing communism and the occupying forces of the United States in the south practicing capitalism.

There was a conference convened in December 1945 to discuss the future of Korea, a commission was created, as well as a US-Soviet commission which eventually did not achieve its aim, thus when there was no solution, the United Nation called for a general election, this was rejected by the North but a general election took place in the south, this led to the adoption of a constitution and a presidential form of government in the south, this led a presidential election in what was now proclaimed the Republic of Korea which is the same South Korea.

Before South Korea became one of the world’s largest, thriving and developed economies, the country and its people faced proxy war which was called the Korean War which lasted from 1950-1953. Another post would be dedicated to the Korean war. After the Korean War (1950-1953), South Korea rose from devastation to become one of the world’s largest economies in the 1980s. In the 21st South Korea is a prosperous democracy practicing and economically stable country.
