BTS initially released a single album, 2 Cool 4 Skool, in 2013, and their debut studio albums in Korean and Japanese, Dark & Wild and Wake Up, respectively, in 2014. Wings (2016), the group’s second Korean studio album, becoming their first to reach a million sales mark in that country. BTS entered the international music business in 2017, driving the Korean wave into America and shattering numerous sales records. They became the first South Korean act to top the Billboard 200 with their studio album Love Yourself: Tear, as well as the first Korean group to receive a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for their single “Mic Drop” (2018).

Love Yourself: Answer (2018), the first Korean album to receive a platinum certification from the RIAA, helped BTS become one of the artists with four US number-one albums in less than two years. With their Grammy-nominated hit “Dynamite,” BTS made history by becoming the first all-South Korean act to top the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200 charts. Their subsequent singles “Savage Love,” “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” and “Permission to Dance” making them the act to have four US number-one singles in the shortest amount of time. Justin Timberlake experienced this last in 2006.

With almost 30 million records sold via the Circle Chart in 2022, BTS will be the best-selling artist in South Korean history, and their studio album Map of the Soul: 7 (released in 2020) will be the best-selling album of all time. With their Love Yourself World Tour in 2019, they became the first non-English speaking/Asian artist to sell out both Wembley Stadium and the Rose Bowl, and they were recognized as the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) Global Recording Artist of the Year for 2020 and 2021. Nine American Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, 24 Golden Disc Awards, and nominations for two Grammy Awards and two Brit Awards, respectively, are just a few of the group’s many accomplishments. They collaborated with UNICEF in 2017 to launch the Love Myself anti-violence campaign, and they later spoke at three UNGA sessions. In 2018, BTS became the youngest recipients of the Order of Cultural Merit from the President of South Korea for their contributions to promoting Korean culture and language.

BTS ENDORSEMENT

Throughout their history, BTS has secured numerous international endorsement deals in numerous sectors. Since their partnership with Puma began in 2015, BTS has marketed the athletic wear brand as the global brand ambassadors of Puma, promoting the remix of the “Turin” and “Sport style” range internationally. BTS and Fila agreed to support each other’s athletic apparel in 2019. BTS have acted as global brand ambassadors for the LG G7 ThinQ smartphone from LG Electronics, the Palisade flagship SUV from Hyundai Motors, and the Nexo hydrogen fuel cell electric SUV.

In order to raise awareness of how electric vehicles may aid in the fight against climate change, BTS became the series’ global ambassadors. In 2020, BTS and Samsung Electronics collaborated to release a limited-edition Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy Buds+ with a BTS theme. BTS, the first male pop group to work with Dior, performed at Stade de France wearing outfits from Kim Jones’ Pre-Fall 2019 collection. In April 2021, the band was named a Louis Vuitton worldwide brand ambassador.

As of 2022, BTS had won numerous accolades and recognitions, including 43 Mnet Asian Music Awards, 34 Melon Music Awards, 28 Golden Disc Awards, 23 Seoul Music Awards, seven Korean Music Awards, 27 Gaon Chart Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, nine American Music Awards, and nine MTV Video Music Awards. BTS is the first group in history to win five straight awards for Top Social Artist and Top Song Sales Artist at the Billboard Music Awards. They were given the moniker “Princes of Pop” by Time.

The group was also selected as one of the Time 100 most influential people in 2019, appeared on the magazine’s cover of the international edition of October 2018, and was included in Time magazine’s list of the 25 most influential people on the internet from 2017 to 2019.

The group’s economic success and influence were compared by Billboard executive Silvio Pietroluongo to that of the Beatles and the Monkees. Executive at MRC Data Helena Kosinski stated that “Although BTS wasn’t the first to introduce KPop to the rest of the globe, they were the first to make it popular. They are popular with people in their 50s and 60s as well as with young people.” BTS was the first non-English speaking artist to appear on the Global Artist Chart in 2018, and they also had the second- and third-best-selling albums globally across all media platforms.  BTS was said to have started the Korean wave in 2022 by Youna Kim, who also compared their influence to that of the Oscar-winning South Korean film Parasite in 2020 and Psy’s ability to embody the globalization of Korean culture in the previous decade. The Bank of Korea, the central bank of South Korea, discovered in 2021 that BTS had a “ripple effect” that encouraged travel to South Korea, interest in Korean culture, movies, and language study, and added roughly US$5 billion annually, or a rise of nearly 0.5%, to the country’s economy. According to a 2018 survey, South Korea had had 800,000 foreign visitors annually on average during the previous four years for BTS-related travel.

Diplomacy

In his 2004 book Soft Power: The Means to Success in World Politics, political scientist Joseph Nye introduced the idea of soft power, which scholars like Maud Quessard have applied to BTS and its impact on entertainment diplomacy and international relations. According to Nye, “getting other nations to want what one nation wants can be dubbed cooperative or soft power in contrast to the hard or command power of commanding others to do what one nation wants.” The currency of soft power, according to Youna Kim, Maud Quessard, includes culture, political values, and foreign policy. This is relevant to BTS’ capacity to be co-optive in their approach to disseminating their message of harmony, acceptance, and dealing with life’s setbacks through their widespread appeal on the global stage.

They were invited to speak before the UN General Assembly in September 2018 and perform in front of 400 dignitaries, including Moon, at the 2018 Korea-France Friendship Concert in Paris, a summit honoring the cordial ties between France and South Korea, thanks to their influence. BTS was the Order of Cultural Merit’s youngest laureate that year. Although recipients of cultural medals typically have over 15 years’ worth of noteworthy accomplishments, Moon recognized the group five years into their career for their contributions to popularizing Korean culture and language abroad.

They were recognized by President Moon in September 2019 for having invented novel business models that directly engage fans in his introduction of his “3 main innovation plans for the contents sector.” BTS, who are currently the youngest recipients to get the award, received the James A. Van Fleet Award in 2020 in recognition of their significant contributions to the advancement of US-Korea relations. They were chosen by President Moon to serve as Special Presidential Envoy for Culture and Future Generations in July 2021.In their capacity as envoys, they represent South Korea at various international events, such as the 76th United Nations General Assembly, and work to “raise awareness on global agendas, such as sustainable development, to our future generations and to strengthen the nation’s diplomatic power across the world.” BTS spoke with US President Joe Biden about the current spike in anti-Asian hate crimes and prejudice on May 31, 2022, at the White House.

BTS FANDOM

The group’s ARMY, a sizable and well-organized online fanbase, translates the songs and social media postings of the group into other languages and doubles charity donations made by BTS members. By 2020, the band’s YouTube channel had almost 40 million subscribers, while its official Twitter and Instagram profiles had more than 30 million followers. Through coordinated efforts on streaming services and initiatives to promote BTS’ songs on radio and television, the fan base contributes to BTS’ top-ranked chart positions.

BTS engaged and interacted with their fans on social media from the start. They also created BTS Universe, an alternate story involving the members that is told in music videos, mobile games, books, short films, and other media. Fans act to change the world in response to BTS socially conscious lyrics. As a result, the fandom frequently engages in activism for charity organizations and socially conscious concerns including the COVID-19 epidemic, racial discrimination, children’s rights, and refugee crises. The group’s activities and lyrics are influenced by feedback from the ARMY; for example, BTS has removed from their songs some Korean terms that sound like American racial slurs and has ceased working with a Japanese producer because Korean ARMY members found his opinions to be excessive.

The band members concur and have always recognized the importance of their fans to their success. As stated by Sarah Keith, “BTS represent a period of generational change.

ARMY symbolizes a “coming of age” for the young in which youth are politically and socially active and cultural output and influence are global and profound.”

BTS Hiatus

honestly I cried watching the video , then hybe released a statement that they weren’t breaking. oh my God they got me there and every Army out there .

This is how it all happened.

They announced that they were taking a “hiatus” to concentrate on their solo projects in a YouTube video that showed the trio celebrating their ninth anniversary as a band at a dining table. Around the 21-minute mark, Suga added, “We’re going into a break now. “We need to discuss the course we’re taking.”

J-Hope continued, “We’ve discussed a lot among ourselves, and we think it’s good to take some time apart. “I hope people don’t have bad thoughts about this step and that they realize this is a healthy, crucial component of our plan that will enable BTS to get stronger,” he  said.

We performed “Dynamite,” “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” and “Life Goes On,” according to RM, and I recognized the ensemble had altered unmistakably. We must acknowledge our evolution. In my opinion, the group BTS was within my grasp up until the songs “On” and “Dynamite,” but after the songs “Butter” and “Permission to Dance,” I was no longer sure what kind of group we were.

“Each of us will set aside some time to enjoy ourselves and learn new things. We pledge to come back even more mature than we are right now,” said Jungkook.

RM continued, “The problem with K-pop and the whole idol system is that they don’t give you time to mature,” stating that he has frequently felt “trapped inside myself” due to his inability to discover his own identity.

BTS are not genuinely breaking up, HYBE said in a statement to the media five hours later.

The group “will allow themselves to express their individuality through the release of solo albums and collaborations with other artists,” the company said in a release sent to People, adding that “the group will remain active as a team while taking individual journey to further achieve personal growth.”

To be clear, they are not on hiatus, but will take some time to consider certain individual projects at this moment and remain active in multiple different forms, a PR representative for the K-Pop superstars told The New York Post.

They then sent Jungkook in to repair the damage. He remarked, “We’re each going to take some time to have fun and experience plenty of things,” while speaking on the live streaming app V-LIVE. We make a commitment to come back even more mature than we are today.

We ARMYS  where happy to hear they weren’t breaking up And they have been doing well on their solo projects. we can’t wait for them to be back.
